New Updates For Pulse

In case you missed it, we implemented two significant updates to Pulse this month.

Pulse IXP Tracker

In this release, we’ve made a significant upgrade—thanks to the wonderful feedback we have received from our community—with more data, an updated look and feel, improved structure, and additional ways for Internet advocates to make the case for IXP development. Some notable changes include:

  • Updates on how we count IXPs, which reduces the total number reflected in the tracker, but makes it more accurate.
  • Better context about the global and local IXP landscape
  • Highlighted countries with robust IXP development, and a “fast-growing IXP” that we update each month.
  • Data about whether IXPs participate in the MANRS IXP program or host a RIPE Atlas anchor.
  • The number of ASNs joining and leaving IXPs over the past year, the proportion of members peering at the route server, a breakdown of member peering policies, and the number using any form of RPKI.

Pulse Internet Resilience Index

We have updated the Pulse Internet Resilience Index with data from 2024. Through the Pulse API, you can now view trends since 2019. Some notable insights from the new data include:

  • Iceland has returned to the top of the index, scoring 84 out of 100.
  • Nine European countries continue to rank among the top ten globally, with Singapore retaining its position at number four. Australia (17th), Canada (18th), Mauritius (35th), and Chile (36th) are the highest ranked in Oceania, North America, Africa, and South America, respectively.
  • Internet resilience globally increased by 1 point between 2023 and 2024 and has increased by 3 points since 2019.
  • 112 countries experienced a 1 to 7-point increase in their resilience score between 2023 and 2024, while 30 experienced no significant change.
  • 58 Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) are among those that have experienced gains, including Rwanda, Nepal, and Trinidad and Tobago, which have seen the greatest gains.
